Description
Johnny Camera, Italian stowaway war orphan for who former 36th Division buddies squared off with immigration authorities in order to get him to Texas, is shown, extreme left, immediately after his arrival in Waxahachie. Next to him is Claren Thompson, bachelor cafe owner and former mess sergeant, who wants to adopt him. They met in Waxahachie for the first time in almost two year. They shared quarters and perils together for 11 months at Salerno, the Rapido River and other tough spots. On the extreme right is Roy Thompson, Curly's brother and another 36th Division vet who was with Johnny in Italy. In the background is Private R. M. Thompson, another brother, who saw service in Europe with the 36th Division and is now at McCloskey General Hospital. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 23, 1946.
