Determining proper materials for road construction by testing soils in the machine are four overseas veterans who are serving apprenticeships as inspectors with the State Highway Department at District 2 headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. Left to right, they are G. D. Chastain, 28, J. R. Venable, 29, H. A. Auvenshine, 22, and D. M. Hatler, 26. They are all wearing collared shirts and trousers.
