Colonel (Col.) Hewitt T. Wheless of Menard, Texas, served as a pilot in the Air Force. He was one of America's and Texas' greatest air heroes of World War II. He is shown seated at a desk and talking on the telephone. He is dressed in military uniform. On the desk there are pieces of paper, a pen, keys, and the telephone. There is mirror on the wall beside him. On December 14, 1941, he piloted a bomber which successfully fought off 18 Japanese planes.
