Description
Colonel (Col.) Hewitt T. Wheless of Menard, Texas, served as a pilot in the Air Force. He was one of America's and Texas' greatest air heroes of World War II. He is shown seated at a desk and talking on the telephone. He is dressed in military uniform. On the desk there are pieces of paper, a pen, keys, and the telephone. There is mirror on the wall beside him. On December 14, 1941, he piloted a bomber which successfully fought off 18 Japanese planes. He is pleased on new plane plans that Army Air Force is continuing the development and production of "bigger and better bombers." Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, January 1, 1946.
