Master Sergeant John M. Williams, veteran of service with the Signal Corps in both the European and Pacific theaters, has returned to Fort Worth to visit his mother, Mrs. Mattie N. Williams. Sergeant Williams, who was with 1st Army headquarters in Europe for one and a half years and with the advanced detachment of General Hodge's headquarters in the Philippines for two months, will receive his discharge at Camp Fannin. During his service in the European theater, he was stationed in England and participated in the Normandy invasion. His last stop before returning to the States for redeployment tot he Pacific area was at Weimar, three miles from the infamous Buckenwald prison. He flew to the Philippines on August 2 and was stationed 40 miles south of Manila, with a detachment making plans for the invasion of Japan, when Japan's surrender was announced. He has been in service two and a half years and wears the ETO ribbon with five stars and the Asiatic Pacific ribbon. He will leave soon for Washington, D. C., to work with the Signal Corps. He is a graduate of Millsap High School and attended Texas Business College in Weatherford. In this picture, he is wearing his military uniform and smiling.
