Description
Captain Jack Carstarphen, 239 Bailey, who has been commanding officer of a demolition and ammunition company in Europe is now on terminal leave after 44 months in the Army. Carstarphen's unit was stationed in Waimes, Belgium, at the German break through last December. He was ordered to blow up 300 tons of demolition material to prevent it from falling into enemy hands. During this same battle he rescued an officer and two men who were trapped in a house. He won the Bronze Star for his heroic action. When he entered service, as a private, he was business manager of Ponton Clinic. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Carstarphen. In this picture, he is wearing his military uniforms and standing against the wall. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, December 20, 1945.
