    Description

An inquest verdict of suicide was returned by Justice Brown in the death of 45-year-old Miss Martha E. Cook. Miss Cook was found drowning in her bathtub by tenants who rented her upstairs apartment. A gas connection in the bathroom was open and all the windows were closed. A note was left, listing her brothers - L. T. Cook and John Cook - and a sister, Mrs. Newton Streetman. According to the tenants, Mrs. Cook had been suffering from severe pain after having a complete set of teeth extracted. In addition to her poor health, she was depressed. She is shown in a portrait photograph, wearing a blouse and eyeglasses.
