Description

School children throughout Fort Worth, Texas, are preparing for the opening day of school. Mrs. D. L. Higby is with her daughter, Janice, and her daughter's classmate, Tom Murray. Both children are six years old and are entering public school for the first time. They are in first grade at West Van Zandt Elementary School. Mrs. Higby is wearing a checkered button-up dress. She is brushing her daughter's curly hair. Janice is wearing a dark dress. Tom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom R. Murray, is wearing a collared shirt and overall shorts. He is carrying a book.
