Description
Upon learning of the Japanese surrender in World War II, Private George Beaudoux found comfort at a local church in Fort Worth, Texas. The 18-year-old soldier is shown collapsing in the arms of Monsignor J. G. O'Donohoe as he offers prayers. Private Beaudoux, of Whittier, California, was traveling on a troop train with the Army Air Forces (A. A. F.) when they received news of the Japanese surrender. Private Beaudoux's brother, a Marine, was killed on Iwo Jima. Monsignor O'Donohoe is a clergyman at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He is dressed in a clerical robe. Private Beaudoux is dressed in a military uniform.
