Victory over Japan celebrants. GIs hoisting to their shoulders, Lieutenant Fred Merrill of Overland, California, left, and Major Fred Shaffer of Mason City, Iowa, train commander. The group of men are in high spirits and appear to be smiling widely as they look on at the camera. Merrill and Shaffer have their arms raised, pointing to the ceiling.
