Private First Class (Pfc.) William N. George Junior (Jr.) is pictured here. He is home now, 3216 Avenue J, Fort Worth, Texas. He is shown standing in a room dressed in uniform -- trouser, full sleeved shirt and ties, facing front and smiling for the camera. He left the United States to join the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific nine months ago. He was wounded on May 21 at Shuri, Okinawa, by a Japanese hand grenade. He was hospitalized on Okinawa and then Guam, and then he was transferred back to the States and was welcomed home by his wife, Lonnie; his three children, Billie Faye, 7; Patti Ann, 3, and Mike, 7 months, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William N. George Senior (Sr.). Private First Class (Pfc.) George fought on Okinawa as a rifleman for 52 days. At the end of his 30-day leave, he will report back to the Navy Hospital at Oakland, California, for reassignment. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 8, 1945.
