Description
Sergeant (Sgt.) William S. Krippel, 21, is pictured here. He is shown standing against a closed door, facing front and dressed in uniform. He was a prisoner of war in Germany for almost 9 months. He was shot down July 26, 1944, while flying his 21st mission with a 15th AAF B-17 squadron as a ball-turret gunner. He parachuted but he and his waist-gunner were caught by the Germans. An 86-day long and hard march followed for the internees ended on May 2, 1945 as the German commander surrendered to American forces. Sergeant (Sgt.) Krippel landed in the U. S. June 20. He is home for 60 days. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Krippel. He graduated from Paschal High School, and entered the service June 7, 1943, a few days after graduation. He was trained at Denver, Colorado, and went overseas, June 8, 1944. He is decorated with the Air Medal and one cluster, the Eastern Theater Offensive (ETO) ribbon and three battle stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, June 30, 1945.
