Description
From Santo Tomas prison in Manila to the Texas State Guard 27th Battalion Armory is a big jump but that is what Private Walter Farnes, 18, pressman's apprentice did. He is the newest recruit in Company B, 27th Battalion. Farnes spent three years in the Japanese prison and he and his family were liberated by American troops, February 3, 1945. His father, a former Manila broker, died in the prison. Farnes is in military uniform standing by a bare wall. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, July 1, 1945.
