Description
Over 300 Texas soldiers of the famed 86th 'Black Hawk' Division were excited to hit the soil of their home state when their special troop train paused recently at Texas and Pacific Station (T&P Station), Fort Worth, Texas, en route from Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, to Fort Sam Houston. Private First Class (Pfc.) Billy Turner, 19, is pictured here. He is shown standing against the train stopped at the station, dressed in uniform and smiling for the camera. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Turner of Greenville. Billy, the former Greenville High football player recalled many weekend trips to Fort Worth. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, morning edition, June 22, 1945.
