Clipping: "Students Get Legion Awards. Six students of Tarrant County schools have been awarded American Legion citizenship awards by the Blackstone Post. In a ceremony at Diamond Hill High School, Craig Laine, post commander, presented the medals to Dan Wall, 3105 N. Harding, freshman class president, and Virginia Trimble, 3310 N. Pecan, freshman class vice president. Noel Marchbanks, Box 788, and Mildred Gilkinson, 3521 Yucca, ninth grade students, received their awards Wednesday at a program in the auditorium of Amon Carter Riverside High School. E. E. Maxon presented the medals. Roy C. Mitchell, post chaplain, presented medals at Mansfield Junior High graduation ceremony to Marlene Maxwell of Burleson, valedictorian of the class, and James Carl Cantrell of Venus, salutatorian." Published Star-Telegram Eve. May 30, 1945. James Carl Cantrell is standing against the Fort Worth Star-Telegram photo wall dressed in a double breasted suit, a light dress shirt, and a diagonal tie. His medal is pinned to his lapel.
