He was awarded a Silver Star and Purple Heart from his heroic duty and the wounds he received aboard the aircraft carrier Franklin. Before enlistment, Lieutenant Gatlin was pastor of Grandview Methodist Church. He is standing against a wall wearing his dress white military uniform.
