Arthur Hencke, 20, who was liberated from German imprisonment April 13 by Allied armies, has arrived in Fort Worth to spend a 60-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Hencke, 2417 Ryan.Hencke was captured in Italy Jan. 21, 1944, while service with the 141st Regiment of the 36th Division, and was interned for 15 months in Stalag 2-B. When the Americans neared the camp, prisoners were evacuated and forced to march for two months across 600 miles of Germany before the liberating army caught up with them.A veteran of two years in the Army, Hencke was overseas 19 months. A brother, Lt. Francis J. Hencke, is stationed at the Memphis, Tenn., Municipal Airport on detached service with the ATC." Published Star-Telegram Eve. May 23, 1945.
