Description
Peter H. Burt is a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy. He is home in Fort Worth, Texas for the first time in two years. He is spending his leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Burt. Burt is an eighteen-year old survivor of USS Ommaney Bay, which sunk on January 4, 1945. He and the other survivors were picked-up in the sea several days later. Burt survived the ships' sinking without a scratch but was later transferred to another cruiser that was hit by a Japanese suicide bomber. Burt suffered wounds from the shell fragments. At the end of his leave, he will return to the Naval Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee for further treatment. Burt enlisted in the Navy when he was sixteen years old. He wears the Purple Heart and three battle stars. He is dressed in his military uniform.
