Chief Machinist Mate W. L. King returned home to his grandmother, Mrs. B. K. Baker. Mr. King is sitting in an armchair dressed in his military uniform. There is a curtain to the right and an antimacassar on the chair behind his head. Clipping:"Mate Is Home on Leave After Action in Pacific A leave home last week terminated 20 months of action in the Pacific islands for Chief Machinist Mate W. L. King, 3415 N. Pecan.King was welcomed home Thursday by his grandmother, Mrs. B. K. Baker, with whom he resides, and his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Baker, 3422 N. Pecan, after spending nearly two years aboard a destroyer. He is decorated with campaign ribbons for six major Pacific battles, in the Marshall Islands, at Wotje Taroa, Hollandia, Aitaxe, the Marianas, Leyte and Lingayen Gulf.' I didn't see much of any of those places, though,' he said 'Our work was to get the boys on the islands and from there on it was up to them.' King added that 'on the side, we knocked a few Japs out of the skies. 'King will be reclassified for further duty at the end of his leave.
