Description
Private Esther Garcia, 21, first Fort Worth girl of Mexican origin to enlist in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and a practical exponent of the Good Neighbor policy. Miss Garcia will be honored at a party at the Mexican Presbyterian Center by the Girls Recreation and Choral Club and the Athletic Boys Club. Born in Texas of Mexican parentage, her Spanish is being put to good use at Moore Field, Mission. Miss Garcia spends half the day issuing take-off and landing instructions in Spanish to a Bolivian air unit and the other half day spent at the ground school servicing as an interpreter for the same unit. Miss Garcia is standing against a wall wearing her uniform. She is visiting her sister, Miss Mary Garcia. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, April 28, 1945.
