Infantryman On Furlough. Private First Class Jack C. Lewis, veteran of the campaigns of Normandy, St. Lo and Brest, is home on 30-day furlough visiting his mother, Mrs. K.E. Freeland, 1316 Lincoln. The infantryman, on leave from the Army General Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, arrived back in this country in March after serving overseas 18 months with the 2nd Division. He was wounded in action December 14. In addition to the Purple Heart, he holds the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the presidential unit citation, awarded his unit after the capture of Breast. Visiting here with Lewis are his wife, daughter of Mrs. Annie Kopesky of Houston, and their son, Jackie. Lewis' brother-in-law Private Leo C. Hall, is serving with the 1st Army in Germany. His step-father, K.E. Freeland, is a veteran of 13 months overseas service during World War I, serving as captain with the 89th Division. Photograph of Private First Class Jack C.
