Description
This is a portrait of Captain Garlon Smith in his military uniform. Captain Smith is recuperating in an Army hospital in Manila after being seriously wounded in action. He, with the 5th Cavalry Regiment, has received the Purple Heart. He is a Handley High School graduate who entered service with the National Guard in 1940, and was commissioned after completing Officer candidate school training at Fort Riley, Kansas, in November 1942. He went oversea in July 1943. He is a husband of Mrs. Billie M. Smith. His wife and their two children live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Marr. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, April 9, 1945.
