Description
Navy Yeoman First Class Harvill Burns has returned to his home in Smithfield for his first leave after three and a half years in the Pacific. He shipped out two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese on December 7, 1941, spending feverish days of activity in getting the base back in order. He served for the most part in Central Pacific area. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Burns of Smithfield and has three brothers, Bob, Marvin and Harry Burns, and a sister, Miss Betty Burns. He is wearing his uniform and standing by a blank wall. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, March 20, 1945.
