Description
At the Red Cross auction, Crowley, Texas, the coconut layer cake sold twice to enrich the Red Cross War Fund by $60. Julian Simon, Fort Worth, Texas, left, paid $25 for the cake after Colonel George Apple, auctioneer., had bid it in for himself at $35 and then offered it for resale. Colonel Apple is shown handing the cake to Mr. Simon. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, March 3, 1945.
