Description

The trial for the Branson Kidnapping Case is being held Monday, February 19, 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Melba Branson, eighteen, is being charged in the kidnapping of two-month-old Milly McGills. At the time of the kidnapping, the baby's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McGill were going through divorce proceedings. Mrs. McGill wanted custody of the child to go to Mrs. Branson, but her husband contested and reported Mrs. Branson for kidnapping. Mrs. Branson is shown leaving the Criminal District Court with her lawyer, Clyde Mays after being held "not guilty" on the charge of kidnapping. Mrs. Branson is wearing a button-up, eyelet dress and has a coat slung over her arm. Mr. Mays is dressed in a double breasted suit. There is a crowd of people in the background, exiting the courtroom.
