    Description

The Fort Worth Safety Council discussed a series of movements designed to make the city safer. In 1944 Fort Worth, Texas had the highest death rate from accidental causes of any similarly sized city in the United States. The Council issued new handbook. Shown here from left to right, are Mrs. R. D. Evans and Mrs. T. J. W. Shoemaker. They are standing against a bare wall and examining the new handbook titled "To Keep Them Safe". Mrs. Evans is the president of the City Federation of Women's Clubs, and Mrs. Shoemaker is the president of the City Council of the Parent-Teacher Association. The handbook will be used by their organizations and other clubs and church groups for the coming year. Both women are dressed in coats and hats. Mrs. Shoemaker is wearing eyeglasses. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 18, 1945.
