Description
Johnny Janes and three friends took a row boat down the Trinity River, Sunday afternoon. They were near the Holly pumping station at Clear Fork of the Trinity River when their boat began taking on water. Johnny, fifteen, battled the river and made his way to shore after the boat sank. Eleven year old David Whitaker, was pulled from the river unconscious by Leroy Pointer, and received artificial resuscitation on the way to the hospital. David's brother, Herbert Whitaker, fifteen, drowned in the river. Leroy Pointer, and Johnny Janes are receiving treatment for shock at St. Joseph's Hospital. Johnny is shown laying in a hospital bed at St. Joseph's. He lives with the Whitaker brothers and their widowed mother, Mrs. Leona Whitaker. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 5, 1945.
