Description
David Whitaker along with his brother Herbert and two friends took a row boat down the Trinity River, Sunday afternoon. They were near the Holly pumping station at Clear Fork of the Trinity River when their boat began taking on water. They leaped from the sinking boat in the Clear Fork. David, eleven, was later pulled from the water unconscious. He received artificial resuscitation at the river bank and in the ambulance. David is shown recovering in a hospital room at City-County Hospital, wrapped in blankets. His fifteen year old brother, Herbert, drowned in the river. Mrs. Leona Whitaker, widowed mother of Herbert and David. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 5, 1945.
