Sergeant (Sgt.) John D. Self Junior (Jr.) is a propeller specialist in the 12th United States Army Air Force (AAF). He is home on leave after twenty-eight months of overseas duty. He was awarded five battle stars on his European Theater of Operations ribbon, a presidential unit citation and cluster and the French Croix de Guerre. Sergeant (Sgt.) Self is a 1936 graduate of Grapevine High School. Prior to enlisting in 1942, he was employed at Hudson's Service Station in Grapevine, Texas. Sergeant (Sgt.) Self is shown standing against a wall, dressed in his military uniform. He is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Self and sister Mrs. Leroy Hickman during his leave. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, February 9, 1945.
