He has several service-related awards or decorations on his jacket."Veteran Flier Visits Parents--After serving 18 months in the European theater with a fighter-bomber group that was twice cited by the President, 1st Lt. William T. Wheeler Jr. recently returned to the United States and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wheeler, 2717 Ryan Ave.The group, flying A-36's, is credited with destroying a truck convoy, two moving trains, numerous enemy planes, as well as eight gun positions on Sicily that couldn't be reached by the ground forces.Wheeler completed 85 missions in the same plane before being made assistant base operations officer eight months ago. He wears the Air Medal with three clusters and the Distinguished Unit Badge with on cluster.A graduate of old Central High School and former student of the University of Texas, he was working for the Texas Electric Service Company when he enlisted. He will report to Santa Ana, Cal., for reassignment."
