Description
Wesley Austin, aviation machinist mate (AD) third class, is home on survivor's leave visiting his brother, Captain C. M Austin of Fort Worth. Mr. Austin fought of sharks and dodged Japanese bullets for 45 hours in the water off Leyte when his aircraft carrier, Gambier Bay, was sunk, October 25. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Austin of Magnum, Oklahoma. He is shown standing, smiling, wearing his military uniform. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, January 12, 1945.
