Elba Altamirano of Mexico City, Mexico, student at Texas Christian University (TCU). Miss Altamirano entered TCU for the winter trimester on a scholarship in the department of languages. She will be an assistant in the instructor of elementary and commercial Spanish at TCU. She is making her first visit to the United States a session at the university because her mother wants her to learn to speak English, a language she can already read, write, and speak to some extent. Making the equivalent of "A" grades in Mexico, Miss Altamirano is a language scholar, having studied Latin, French and Spanish, in addition to English. At the University of Mexico she took work in the school of philosophy and letters and was designated by one of her professors as "the best student in the school." At TCU she will take courses in English grammar, English literature, American literature, French drama and history of the United States. She has never had time for a hobby because of her studies, but is interested in sports. Her mother, who is English and a native of London, met her father when he was Mexican consul in Liverpool. In this picture, Miss Altamirano is sitting on a wall with a book in her hands. She is wearing a dress with floral embroidery on it.
