Flier Shot Down Over Balkan Theater Is Home -- Flier and First Lieutenant (Lt.) Charles Britton, Junior (Jr.), son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Britton, Senior, of 1912 Evans, shot down June 14 over Yugoslavia with B-17 crew and restored to his base by means still unrevealed, was back in Fort Worth for a short visit before reassignment. He is shown standing against a bare wall, facing front and smiling for the camera. He is wearing uniform. This 27-year-old airman, wearer of the Air Medal with four clusters and the presidential unit citation, is a veteran of heavy bombing operations over the Balkans and was returning from an attack on oil refineries at Budapest when his plane was attacked and set afire by German ME-410s, twin-engine fighters. First Lieutenant Britton, Junior (Jr.) was graduated form Old Central High School and attended Texas Christian University (TCU).
