Newton H. Lassiter, 84 and wife, shown here, in a sitting room listening to war news on the radio. Mr. Lassiter is a retired Fort Worth attorney, banker and insurance company head. They have given up their home at 1008 Penn, for an apartment of the Hotel Texas, so their house can be used by the Girls Service League. Mr. Lassiter was born in 1860 in Lexington Tennessee. As a young lawyer, he practice in Fort Worth where he married Miss Elizabeth Davis in 1890. She is the only daughter of W. H. Davis, an early day Fort Worth businessman. A successful career followed him including serving as president and chairman of the board of the State Reserve Life Insurance Company. They have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren, 2 of which are in the service; Captain Lassiter Thompson, fighter plane pilot; and Private first class Donald Thompson of Camp Pinedale, California. The Lassiters celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on July 13, 1940. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, September 10, 1944.
