Description

Staff Sergeant William L. Sweet of the United States Army Air Forces (AAF) is an administrative worker who participated in the African, Sicilian, and Italian campaigns during 22 months overseas is home on furlough visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sweet. He wears the presidential citation ribbon with cluster awarded his unit for leading a strafing mission over Foggia, Italy and for the air battle at Salerno, Italy. He is a graduate of Longview High School and worked for the J. C. Crouch Grain Company in Dallas before entering service in March, 1942. This is a half-length portrait of him wearing his military uniform, facing slightly left. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram, morning edition, September 3, 1944.
