Sergeant Lewis Has 5 Citations -- Staff Sergeant Virgil C. Lewis, Liberator tail gunner of the 8th Air Force in England, has completed 30 combat missions and has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) and the Air medal with three clusters. He is shown in uniform. His mother, Mrs. Perry Simon, recently received the Purple Heart, awarded him for wounds received in action on one of his flights. He told her in a letter he expects to be home by mid-September. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 24, 1944.
