Description
Kenneth Sneed, 18, person living with polio, working at a jewelry manufacturing company, T. I. Pinkerton Company. He is sitting on a chair in the workshop, filing on a ring. Sneed came to Fort Worth from his home in San Angelo in July 1943 to work at Convair, however he became a patient of the fearful infantile paralysis epidemic ranging in Fort Worth and became one of the over 100 poliomyelitis cases. Sneed's legs were affected by the paralysis and still receives physiotherapy treatment and wears a full length brace on his legs. While at the hospital, he was visited by C.G. Fairchild, from Vocational Rehabilitation Division of the State Department of Education discussing plans for following a profession after his released from the hospital and suggested jewelry manufacturing as one of the fields in which he would not be physically handicapped. Sneed started work at Pinkerton company a week ago. He is the son of Mrs. Fannie Sneed. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 31, 1944.
