Description

Mrs. Oma Pennock, sitting on her chair, looking at souvenirs sent from boys and men who have passed through her café. The cafe at 3400 Millett closed its doors 5 months ago after serving for 38 years. It became a mecca for Star-Telegram carrier-salesmen and the street car conductors, motormen and bus drivers on the Polytechnic line. Besides lemon pie, beans and corn sticks were the most renowed of the menu. All of the hundreds of boys and men who have passed through her door still call her mom. Wherever they go, they remember her and send postcards and souvenirs. A foster mother to hundreds, Mrs. Pennock has three children of her own: Mrs. Meta Muenzler, Jack Pennock and Mrs. Marie McGee. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 31, 1944.
