    Description

'Hump' Flier Is Visiting Home -- The 124 missions which First Lieutenant (Lt.) Marvin C. Lavender flew over the dangerous Assam-China air routes are classed by him as "routine stuff," but the flights earned him the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), air medal and a presidential unit citation. This awards were for "extraordinary achievement during more that 300 hours of operational flight of transport aircraft over routes where enemy interception and attack were probable and expected." He is shown standing against a bare wall, facing front and smiling for the camera. He is wearing military uniform. Lieutenant Lavender is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Lavender of 1116 College. He is a Paschal High graduate. After three weeks he will report to Nashville for re-assignment. Published in The Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, August 30, 1944.
