R. Gerald Averitt, Navy airman from Knox City, Texas, left, and Thomas Dugan Baxter of Fort Worth, Texas. Baxter once saved Averitt from a life raft in the Central Pacific. The two trained together at the Naval Air Station, San Diego. They are shown wearing their white navy uniforms. Published Fort Worth Star-Telegram Morning Edition August 27, 1944.
