Description
Corporal (Corp.) R. W. Thompson, right, returned home after 20 months of fighting in North Africa and Italy. Corporal Thompson is shown wearing his military uniform and sitting on a couch next to an unnamed man. The unidentified man is wearing a collared shirt, necktie, and trousers. As a gunner in the 91st Artillery of the 1st Armored Division in Africa, Corporal Thompson took part in the "rat race". He wears the Purple Heart ribbon and three campaign stars for the landing in Africa, the battle of Tunisia and the battle of Italy. Published in Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, August 17, 1944.
