"Voters crowded to the polls in numbers early for Saturday's local option election, in contrast to the light vote at the first primary. Top left, Mrs. Willie Ramsey, 1000 Monroe, was an early voter. Top right, one of the first to ballot at Precinct 4, Central Fire Station, was Joe M. Matthews, 619 Texas. Bottom, typical morning crowd at Central Fire Station." Published Star-Telegram Eve. Aug. 5, 1944. Two women are sitting a table reading from a long list of names. There is a framed map on the wall behind them. Six men are standing around the room waiting their turn to cast their ballots. The woman on the left is wearing a light blouse and print skirt and has a pen and a handkerchief in her breast pocket. She is wearing eyeglasses and earrings. The women to her right is wearing a hat, eyeglasses, and a bamboo-print dress, with a handbag on the table at her left. All of the six men are wearing their hats, three of the men are wearing eyeglasses.
