Top right, one of the first to ballot at Precinct 4, Central Fire Station, was Joe M. Matthews, 619 Texas. Bottom, typical morning crowd at Central Fire Station." Published Star-Telegram Eve. Aug. 5, 1944. Two women are sitting a table reading from a long list of names. There is a framed map on the wall behind them. Six men are standing around the room waiting their turn to cast their ballots. The woman on the left is wearing a light blouse and print skirt and has a pen and a handkerchief in her breast pocket. She is wearing eyeglasses and earrings. The women to her right is wearing a hat, eyeglasses, and a bamboo-print dress, with a handbag on the table at her left. All of the six men are wearing their hats, three of the men are wearing eyeglasses.
