Carrol Burdette Selden - the photo is of Mr. Selden in civilian clothes, a leather jacket over a dress shirt and necktie.Obituary "Carrol Burdette Selden, 31, machinist mate third class, was killed July 19, in line of duty in the South Pacific when a mortar shell exploded prematurely, the Navy Department has notified his wife, Mrs. Viola Selden, 3717 El Campo.Selden enlisted in the Seabees Dec. 7, 1942, with his wife's brother, Curtis Doss, seaman first class. They served 17 and a half months together in the South Pacific. Selden was employed in the construction of the Convair plant and was working at the Marine Glider Base at the time of his enlistment.He was born at Brownwood, later moving to Ballinger where he was reared and attended school. The Navy department stated that he was buried at sea.Survivors include a son, C. B. Selden Jr., 12, his parents, Mrs. Bertha Selden Ballinger, and J. S. Selden, Springtown, and a sister, Mrs. Ulma Strickland, Lovell, Wyo. He was a brother of W. E. Selden, killed at Azle in June." Published Star-Telegram Morn. Aug. 5, 1944.
