Description
Corporal William R. Thomas, who served 27 months with the 1st Marine Division in the Southwest Pacific, is here on a 30-day furlough visiting his father, W. L. Thomas and his mother Mrs. Dorothy Thomas. Thomas was on 22 islands in the Southwest Pacific and holds the Presidential Unit Citation for action on Guadalcanal, as well as campaign ribbons studded with four battle stars for Guadalcanal, New Guinea and Cape Gloucester. The 24-year-old Marine is a 1938 graduate of Amon Carter Riverside High School, where he was a football player. He enlisted three years ago. At the termination of his furlough, he will report to Camp Lejeune, New River, North Carolina, as communications instructor. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, July 30, 1944.
