The celebration consisted of twenty-one hundred pounds of beef barbecue in an outdoor pit, midway carnival attractions were set up and a series of variety acts presented. The coronation of Miss Josephine Bales as "War Bond Queen" was the feature of the barbecue and program. Guests for the occasion were (left) Colonel Gwynne Conrad, Dallas, director of all personnel for the 8th Service Command, and Colonel E. G. Mattews, Washington, D.C., director of civilian personnel, Office of the Quartermaster General. They are shown standing next to each other. A square dance concluded the program. Music was furnished by the Fort Worth Army Air Field Band. Major Jefferson S. Henderson was in charge of the program. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram morning edition, June 17, 1944.
