    Description

    This is a portrait of First Lieutenant David E. Melville, son of Mrs. J. Y. Kuffner has been awarded an oak leaf cluster in lieu of an additional air medal. In a letter from Brigadier General Robert Dunlop, Mrs. Kuffner was informed of the death of her son, who had been reported missing since March 20 as well as the news of his previous promotion. The B-25 pilot entered service in June 1942 and went overseas in October 1943. In addition to his mother, his wife, the former Elta Beth Miller and daughter Donna Elaine, who he had never seen and his brother, Ollan Lee Melville, yeoman first class stationed in Norfolk VA survive him. Published in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram evening edition, June 8, 1944.
