Jones, 20, aviation machinist's mate, second class, is visiting his three sisters in Jacksboro, Mrs. Ned Walker, Mrs. Ita Leather wood, and Mrs. May Leatherwood.The young sailor has four stars on his campaign ribbons – one for being at sea during the attack on Pearl Harbor, the others for the battle of Midway and the New Georgia engagements.As a combat air crew gunner on a Navy PBY flying boat, he aided in the rescue of Marines from New Georgia under enemy bombing and strafing.He enlisted in the Navy October, 1941, and received his training at San Diego. He will report back to San Diego Nov. 24, and hopes to return to sea duty.Jones formerly attended Jacksboro High School. –Star-Telegram Photo."
