Powers Jr. has missed being home for the last two Christmases because of his service in the Caribbean with the Army Air Forces, but his mother doesn't intend for him to lose out this year. So one day next week, before his 30-day furlough ends, Mrs. Powers will have a Christmas celebration for her family in their home, 1700 Clover Lane, including a Christmas tree. All the family, including the parents, Sergeant Powers and his sister, Eva Marie, will be there. 'When you do you get a funny tickling in your stomach that feels like you haven't eaten for two or three days. But when you get on that gun, you forget all of that.' In a few more months, Sergeant Powers expects to be sent back to the States to enter training as an aviation cadet. He hopes to be the pilot of a pursuit shipâ€â€'where you're on your own.'Sergeant Powers, a graduate of Arlington Heights High School, entered the service in November, 1941. The Army's all right, he says, but he doesn't intend to stay in after his duty is over.'I'm going to get out and get married,' he stated. 'And if I get through my cadet training all right, we may bet married before I get out.'"Stamped: Star-Telegram Eve. Nov.12, 1943
