Description

Robert Sanders wearing jacket covered with military insignia. Young man standing in front of a plaster wall, wearing a pin-striped dress shirt, a diagonally striped dark tie, dress slacks, and over this, a jacket with embroidered military insignia sewn on all over the garment. Clipping: "Robert Sanders of 608 Elmwood, has been offered $100 for this jacket covered with 119 military insignia. He has been collecting the GI marks since May from servicemen. Even Snuffy Smith of the comic strip would have a hard time mustering a salute for the wearer of this jacket. There are campaign ribbons from the Virgin Islands, a Seabee insignia fro Dutch Harbor, and Marine service stripes from his uncle, Sgt. Louis Safran, from Guadalcanal. A second lieutenant's bar, and M. P. arm band and eight groups of sergeants' stripes are included in the collection. Sanders' mother, Mrs. B. R. Looney has the job of sewing on the collection. –Star-Telegram Photo." Stamped Star-Telegram Morn Nov. 3, 1943.
