Description
Left to right, Jean Whiteside, Minnie Harkins, Chiristine Kincannon and Leda Stewart. Four women standing in front of a concrete block wall in business attire. Whiteside is wearing a single-breasted herringbone suit with a skirt and jacket and a print button-up the front blouse under the jacket and has a large clutch purse under her right arm. Harkins is wearing a less formal dress jacket in dark cloth with light buttons over a light high-neck (possibly pullover) blouse. She has a long chain with some kind of pendant. Kincannon is wearing a dark dress with 3/4 length sleeves, a high neckline and somewhat gathered at the waist. She is wearing a link bracelet and holding a large purse in front of her and has on a small hat with lace. Stewart is wearing a woven striped single-breasted suit jacket over a gathered high-necked light blouse with lots of small buttons running down close together for a few inches from the neckline. Her skirt matches part of the pattern in her jacket, and she is wearing a bracelet, wristwatch, and ring and clutching a handbag under her left arm. All women but Harkins are wearing earrings. Clipping: "Seven Fort Worth Girls Closer to Becoming WAVES. Several Fort Worth girls, four of them war workers, Saturday were a step closer to becoming WAVES. They were taken to Dallas in a Navy station wagon for final tests and physical checkup before completing their applications, which, if approved, will result in assignment to Hunter College, New York, for training. The four war workers, however, will have to wait 60 days before entering service under the new manpower restrictions. They are . . . Christine Kincannon, 3625 Laughton [and] Leda Stewart, 444 Burnet, Convair employees. The others are Jean Whiteside, 4729 East Lancaster [and] Minnie Harkins, 307 Hemphill."
