Description
Travis Young, Jaycee, applying make-up for Women's Army Corps Private First Class Mary Rogers. Photo of a middle aged white man is a pin-striped light shirt and gray-tone slacks with a dark solid color tie and a watch chain to his pocket. He is holding a can of shoe polish in his left hand and with his right hand is smearing it onto the cheek of a young white woman, for the appearance of blackface, who has her hair held up with a headband and who is wearing a WAC uniform with shirt and pants the same mid-range color tones. The room has framed recesses beyond a table top fastened to the wall. She is sitting on a folding chair. There appear to be costume pieces behind her on the table. There is a light bulb on the wall that is on. The clipping reads: "Jaycee Travis Young "blacks out" WAC Pfc. Mary Rogers, singer and dancer in the airfield's minstrel show at Will Rogers Memorial Auditorium." Stamped: Star-Telegram. Eve. Sep. 15, 1943.
